清澄山での１年６ヶ月におよぶ修行から下山した大山倍達が、1950年11月にふもとの館山で初めて牛と対決。対決に際し、屠殺場の側に居住し、牛の生態を観察しながら修練を積んだといわれる。館山では、牛47頭を倒し、うち４頭は即死。
