Kancho Shokei Matsui led the camp, assisted by Shihan Kenny Uytenbogaardt, Shihan Stuart Corrigal and Shihan Katsuhito Gorai. More than 150 members from Australia, Canada, Romania, Reunion, New Caledonia and New Zealand participated.
Preceding the camp, a series of seminars was conducted over the week from Monday to Thursday by Shihan Uytenbogaardt and Shihan Corrigal, and on the Friday evening a special training class for Branch Chiefs and Dojo Operators was conducted by Kancho Matsui at the North Bondi dojo.
The camp, which was held at the impressive Paddington Town Hall, was opened with a traditional ‘Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners of the Country’ and didgeridoo performance by Walangari Karntawarra, followed by an opening address by the Japanese Vice-Consul to Australia, Mr Yuta Sekiyama. Over the weekend all aspects of training were covered and culminated in Dan examination. The event concluded with a very enjoyable Sayonara Party which included a sit-down meal and much celebration.
